Hero Steve Smith
Steve Smith who is based at Wednesbury Ring and Ride Depot has been with the organisation for 4 years.
One day in December 08, Steve Smith was picking up his next passenger, Mrs Davis. When he arrived at Mrs Davis’s door he knocked and waited for her to appear. As Mrs Davis did not open the door, Steve called the depot to find out if she may have cancelled her journey. The depot confirmed that there had not been any cancellation by Mrs Davis's. At that point Steve became very concerned.
Steve visited the warden of the housing centre and then they went to Mrs Davis’ neighbour who activated her panic alarm that called through to paramedic service.
On arrival, the paramedics gained entry into Mrs Davis’s house and found that she had collapsed on the bathroom floor.
The paramedics advised that Mrs Davis had suffered from a Stroke and if Steve had not intervened then the outcome of the story may have been very different.
Sandwell Homes Community Service and all of Mrs Davis’s family would like to say thanks to Steve for all his help and kindness, because Mrs Davis would probably not be alive today if he had not acted as he did.
Words from Mrs Davis: ‘Steve is a unsung hero’
Well done Steve!!
