IMG_0390
Darren Need has been a Ring and Ride driver based at the East Depot since June 2003.

On Wednesday 3rd June 2009, Darren arrived at his next pick up destination, where he found the front door open and the passenger's son was in a panic calling out for help.

Darren entered the property and saw his passenger lying lifeless on the living room floor.

Darren spoke to the son who explained that he had called the emergency services and they were still on the line. Darren took over the call and was advised by the emergency services to start CPR, which he applied immediately. Darren carried on the compressions until the ambulance arrived and the paramedics taken over.

Whilst the emergency paramedics carried on CPR Darren consoled the son for around 15 minutes, at which in this time the casualty was pronounced dead.

Keith Drew, District Manager of the East Birmingham Depot has nominated Darren for driver of the month and has said that ‘Darren acted very swiftly and showed a lot of bravery. We are sad to hear of the outcome but are very proud of Darren’s response to the situation’.

Well done Darren!
