Solihull and East Birmingham Ring and Ride Relocate
It has been almost twelve months since the Solihull and East Birmingham Ring and Ride Depot uprooted its operations from Garretts Green to its new home on the Elmdon Trading Estate.
The Depot is in the ideal location for serving the users of both East Birmingham and Solihull. Staff have also found the change a welcome move with better garaging for vehicles, more office space and welfare facilities together with ample car parking.
All a whole lot better than they had previously at the old Garretts Green Depot. It also gives a good impression to visitors with its clean modern look.
Not only are Ring and Ride vehicles operated from this Depot, there are 22 'Home to School' contract vehicles that provide transport for pupils with special needs, and serve Brays Road and Beaufort Schools in Birmingham. The utilisation of these vehicles, and of course the drivers, outside of school drop off and pick up times helps provide a more flexible service for the Ring and Ride operation. They play a big part in helping more and more Ring and Ride passengers to get out and about.
The Elmdon Depot is also the home of the 'Taxi Bus' service. This service provides a lifeline for people living in the Meridan Gap, the rural area between Solihull and Coventry. It links into conventional bus and rail and can be used by any member of the public for a commercial fare.
With spring almost on us the staff are already looking at places to get people out and about over the summer months. We will be advertising through posters on buses with trips to garden centres and pub lunches always popular. Birmingham City Council will put on events throughout the summer and again we will keep people informed on any trips that we will be operating.
The staff of Solihull and East Birmingham Ring and Ride are always happy to hear from their passengers or anybody who would like to know more about the service.
