Andrew "learning his trade" at Ring and Ride’s South Birmingham depot.
Andrew Stacey, pictured, based at the South Birmingham depot in Frankley, is one of two apprentices currently employed by Ring and Ride. Andrew explains how his employment had come about: "I heard about the job from my Dad, Ron, who is a lead driver at the same depot. Whilst studying for my BTEC National in Travel and Tourism I developed an interest in independent mobility, and the importance of understanding and respecting the needs of people for whom this is a critical issue".
Andrew has now been with the Ring and Ride for 6 months and is receiving training in range of skills including administration, scheduling and logistics as well as furthering his qualifications in NVQ business administration. Andrew continued: "Even though I've only been with Ring and Ride for a short time, it's really opened my eyes to problems that older and disabled people have to deal with on a day to day basis. The most enjoyable part of my training is in the scheduling department, helping passengers to get the trips they need to maintain some control over their lives".
