Vehicle Design Update

Vehicle Update 2
VW Crafter

The newly liveried VW Crafter, came into service in September 2008. As Des Rogers wmsnt's Operations Manager explained: "as well as improving access, passenger safety and comfort we also wanted to update the livery to make it more distinctive and eye catching. Health and safety problems identified on the relocated side step have now been resolved by proving an electrically operated bottom step and better grab rails. Feedback has been very positive and we are pleased with the new look we have created". There is also a practical reason for this. The new livery can easily be peeled of when buses are due to be replaced which is more cost effective and easier to sell on there being no need to re-spray the vehicle. Another feature has been the introduction of an 0845 enquiry line number on the side of the buses. This replaces "local" numbers currently displayed which means that new buses can be moved from one area to another without providing confusing information.

Ford Transits

To ensure that the vehicles that we use to operate services are the best option to meet service Passenger needs and are also the most cost effective, as a service provider, we are continually looking at what's available in the marketplace. As Paul Elverson, wmsnt's Fleet Manager explained "as part of the this process, we will be putting 7 Ford Transits through their paces. They will be based at the Wolverhampton depot from the beginning of April 2009 where their performance and reliability will be monitored". Cost effectiveness and reliable support services are also key factors which will also be considered. Transits being Built

Pictured opposite are the Ford Transits currently being built at Leicester Coach Builders in Birmingham. They are being built to the same specification as our current, predominantly VW Crafter buses.

A design group which includes service passengers as well as staff from different departments meet to consider new ideas, and feedback from passengers before new vehicles are ordered.
